The BOHS IP402 – Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings course provides a range of theory and practical knowledge for those wishing to undertake asbestos building surveys.
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG264 Asbestos: The survey guide and have a minimum of six months prior experience of carrying out asbestos surveys.

This course is the international asbestos qualification recognised by Worksafe NZ for Asbestos Assessors. The course provides a range of theory and practical knowledge for those conducting asbestos removal and remediation projects. This includes the duties and responsibilities of an independent asbestos assessor who is required to ensure that control measures are effective and that the affected areas where asbestos removal has occurred is safe to re-occupy at the end of the project. This qualification covers the skills and knowledge an asbestos assessor needs, from air monitoring and clearance testing through to reporting findings, conducting the four stage clearance and issuing the final clearance certificate.

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to remove friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The unit includes preparing, enclosing and removing friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements. This unit of competency is recognised by Skills Organisation and WorkSafe New Zealand as equivalent in knowledge and skills to the NZ Unit Standard 29766.

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to supervise the removal process for friable and non-friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The unit includes planning for and supervising the removal process, including preparing the work area and the work site, using safe and compliant removal practices, maintaining safety procedures, and supervising the decontamination and removal of asbestos containing materials.

Asbestos assessment and air monitoring are required during all friable (Class A) asbestos removal and for non-friable asbestos removal where a risk assessment indicates that airborne asbestos fibres may result from the removal activity. This unit of competency is recognised by Skills Organisation and WorkSafe New Zealand as equivalent in knowledge and skills to the NZ Unit Standard 26768.

This unit includes preparing, containing and removing non-friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements. This unit of competency is recognised by Skills Organisation and WorkSafe New Zealand as equivalent in knowledge and skills to the NZ Unit Standard 28765.
